Common questions
How do I send my first alert?
In the app, open Settings, tap a source (or New source), then tap New token and copy the token. Keep it in an environment variable called NOTIFY_TOKEN, then run:
curl -sS -X POST https://api.alertflare.app/v1/notify \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $NOTIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"title":"Hello from my script"}'
A reply of 202 with an id means it was accepted. Each source page in the app also has an API playground that writes this code for curl, PowerShell, Node or Python.
An alert didn't arrive on my phone.
- Open the alert in the app's history. Its delivery list shows what happened on each device, for example "Skipped (quiet hours)" or "Skipped (routing)".
- Check that notifications are allowed for Alertflare in iOS Settings, and that a Focus mode isn't silencing it. Urgent alerts use Time-Sensitive delivery; allow that in the Focus settings if you want them to break through.
- Check the device's routing in the app (Settings, then the device): the source or alert type may be switched off there.
- Info alerts are not pushed during a device's quiet hours, but they still appear in the app.
My script gets an error back.
401 invalid_token: the token is wrong, revoked, or its source was deleted. Create a new token.400: a field is invalid; the message names it. Fix it rather than retrying.429: too many requests. Wait the number of seconds in theRetry-Afterheader.5xxor a network error: retry with a short backoff. Add anIdempotency-Keyheader so a retry can't create a duplicate alert.
I forgot my password.
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email. We'll email you a code to set a new password. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Settings, then Delete account. This permanently removes your account, devices, sources, tokens and notification history. You can also email support@alertflare.app from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Is Alertflare suitable for emergency or safety alerts?
No. Delivery depends on Apple, Expo, your network and your phone's settings, so an alert can be delayed or missed. Use a dedicated system for anything safety-critical.
